What's Updated in the 2017 Volvo S60?

Compared to the previous model year, the 2017 Volvo S60 has a much more simplified engine lineup with only two engines available, a 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder or a 302-horsepower version that is both turbocharged and supercharged. This provides enough choices for the average driver but allows Volvo to keep costs down by streamlining production so they can pass the savings onto the driver. In addition to the adjustment to the engine lineup, the 2017 S60 has a new entry-level trim known as the Dynamic. This trim has leather sport seats, xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights with headlight washers, R-Design styling cues, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a moonroof. It also features LED daytime running lights, heated side mirrors, cruise control, automatic climate control, and City Safety for collision avoidance.

Some changes to the S60 for the 2017 model year also apply to the other Volvo 60 series. These include new 18-inch wheels and redesigned wheels on the R-Design trim. There are also three new exterior colors, including Luminous Sand, Mussel Blue, and Bursting Blue.

How the Volvo S60 Has Changed Over Time

Volvo introduced the Volvo S60 in 2001 as a replacement for their S70. For 2002, more features became standard, including an emergency trunk release handle, Emergency Brake Assistance, and traction control. In the next few years, Volvo increased the number of features available and made minor adjustments to the trim levels. More updates were made in 2005, including adjustments to the front fascia, headlamps, grille, bumper, LED taillights, and lower rocker sills. Inside, all 2005 Volvo S60s also got redesigned front seats while the flat-blade wipers helped clear the windows more effectively. There were also significant updates to the options and trims. The 2008 S60 introduced new front fascias along with the new tire pressure monitoring system. This year also saw stability control. In 2009, many of the previously optional features became standard across the lineup, providing every Volvo S60 driver with the luxury they wanted.

There was a major redesign for the 2010 model year of the Volvo. This was followed in 2011 by some minor adjustments to the trim levels and headlamp washers as well as automated wipers becoming standard. The styling was redone again in 2014, with new seats, metallic interior accents, upgrades to the gauge cluster, and a sleeker frame. Among other changes, the car looked wider thanks to adjustments made to the headlights and adjusting the nose in the front. Nearly everything in front of and including the windshield pillar was new. Since then, only more minor adjustments have been made to the S60 with the exception of the recent engine changes.
