The Volvo XC90 Is Luxurious, Capable, Spacious, and Packed with Features

The Volvo XC90 delivers luxury in a spacious SUV with the latest technology. Over the years, the XC90 has evolved and now it offers more options than ever before, including a plug-in hybrid powertrain that appeals to those who want to reduce their impact on the planet. The XC90 is also a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick, proving that it will keep you and your family safe. Those with larger families or groups of friends will appreciate the ability to fit seven passengers in the full-sized seats that are comfortable even for adults in any position. You will also appreciate the cargo area, which can be expanded by folding down the rear seats to get 85.7 cubic feet for everything you need. With the Volvo offering a plug-in hybrid, third-row seating and so many features, there is sure to be the right configuration for you and your family.

Updates to the 2017 Volvo XC90

The 2017 XC90 saw numerous changes to make it even more luxurious, including the addition of a new XC90 Excellence, which is among the most premium models on the market and essentially gives you a limousine interior in the XC90's SUV body style. This model has seating for just four passengers, offering more interior room and extreme comfort for the tallest of passengers on any road trip. The rear seats have ventilation and heating along with massaging functionality. There are airline-style folding tables and an integrated fridge as well, proving no road trip is too long.

The 2017 XC90 also added the Pilot Assist II system that lets the XC90 steer, brake, and accelerate at as fast as 80 mph compared to the 30 mph limit in the previous version. The City Safety system for this model is also updated to feature run-off road mitigation and Large Animal Detection, making driving safer. Volvo has also taken the opportunity to update the XC90's technology and connectivity for the 2017 model year, keeping it competitive. Now you can enjoy Spotify for music and the Park and Pay parking app. Connect Service Booking makes it easier to schedule service and you can even send yourself messages with the Record & Send feature. These are just some of the technology advances the Volvo has seen this year.

How the XC90 Has Evolved Over the Years

Drivers were first able to buy the Volvo XC90 in 2003 with its sleek design and long list of features. The tires and wheels saw upgrades the following year. The 2006 XC90 got rid of the formerly available turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, and the Ocean Race Edition V8 added an all-wheel drive system. The XC90's body style was updated along with exterior styling cues for the 2007 model year. This year also saw the addition of an auxiliary audio input jack and tire pressure monitoring system as standard features. The auto-dimming rearview camera became standard the next year and a Special Edition model arrived. The 2009 XC90 dropped the V8 Sport and in 2010, third row seats became standard. This year also included rear parking assist and smoother handling. For the 2011 model year, Volvo made satellite radio and Bluetooth standard on all models. The V8 engine that drivers loved was discontinued for the 2012 model year. In the following years, Volvo continued to make minor adjustments to the interior cabin and exterior, including adding LED taillights and running lights. The current 2017 XC90 has the most updates of any versions in recent years.
