Updates for the 2017 Volvo XC60

The 2017 Volvo XC60 saw very few changes for the 2016 model year, and many sources will actually tell you that nothing has changed. That isn't quite right, however, as the powertrains available in the XC60 are slightly different for the 2017 model year. The Drive-E engines are completely new and work with 8-speed automatics. The T5 uses a turbocharged 2-liter 4-cylinder engine to give you 240 horsepower. The T6 adds a supercharger to this engine, increasing output to 302 horses.

The 2017 XC60 should have more than enough changes for the average driver to enjoy. That said, those who want to wait for a more significant redesign shouldn't have to wait long. The 2018 XC60 has made its official debut with new features like Steer Assist as part of the City Safety system. Pilot Assist will also be added, which is the Volvo autonomous driver-assistance system that can brake, steer, and accelerate at 80 mph or less. The 2018 XC60 may also offer the T8 plug-in hybrid engine, but you will still have to wait to find out whether that is available in the American market.

The History of the Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60's history goes back to the 2010 model year, when it came with a wide range of interior features and safety amenities. It offered a 235-horsepower 3.2-liter I6 or a 281-horsepower turbocharged I6 and used a 6-speed automatic transmission. The first offered front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while the turbo only came with AWD. The only update for the 2011 model year was that the R-Design became available with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. This model saw an increase in output of 25 horsepower for the following model year.

For 2013, automatic wipers and automatic headlights both became standard. The XC60 Inscription was also introduced with luxury appointments not offered on other trims, such as special embroidered headrests, full semi-aniline leather upholstery, and 20-inch wheels. The 2014 XC60 saw a larger number of updates, including a new front end, updated interior, new option packages, and enhancements to the all-wheel drive system. The front became more mature and received LED light strips within the bumper. The exterior's black plastic was replaced with body-colored accessories, there were new headlights, and a chrome strip was added to the sides. Inside, the 2014 XC60 got more supportive seats and a more upscale feel. The engine lineup was revised for the 2015 model year.
